Affitech AS enters into research agreement with Amersham Pharmacia Biotech
Affitech AS and Amersham Pharmacia Biotech (APB) have signed a research agreement wherein Affitech will use its proprietary technology and libraries to isolate specific binders for APB. In the agreement, APB will provide the targets and Affitech will use its proprietary libraries to screen for high affinity binders to these targets. It is expected that this agreement will be extended to include a broader range of targets in the future.
Dr. Stephen Capper, Section Manager at Amersham Pharmacia Biotech comments on the deal: "We are happy to have entered into this agreement with Affitech. We feel confident that the Affitech technology can be an important tool for us in the development of novel antibodies and antibody fragments to some of our key targets."

Affitech is a joint initiative between Dr. Ole J. Marvik, based in Oslo, and Prof. Melvyn Little at the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ) in Heidelberg. Together with four colleagues, they formed Affitech in 1997 with the aim of exploiting recombinant antibodies for novel products in diagnosis and therapy.
The ability to tailor-made antibodies is one of the major new enabling technologies that have been developed over the last decade. It is expected to have far-reaching implications for all antibody-based products.
