Pepbodies™ is a novel technology based on the fusion of small peptides bound to natural immunoglobulin effector ligands with antibody fragments such as Fab or scFv.
Depending on the antibody specificity, Pepbodies may be utilized as therapeutic agents by taking advantage of the body's own elimination methods such as the complement system or cellular Fc-receptor mediated systems.
Pepbodies can recruit natural antibody effector functions without the need of an antibody Fc-region or additional antigen binding domains. Pepbodies can be constructed to combine more than one effector function by displaying different peptides as fusions to the antibody fragment. Pepbodies can discriminate between various effector functions and can differ from what is naturally associated with immunoglobulins. Pepbodies have a small size compared to intact antibodies and thus may facilitate tissue penetration. Active Pepbodies can be produced in E.Coli.
